Manchester City FC and San Diego Surf Soccer Club announce exciting new youth development partnership

San Diego, CA – The San Diego Surf Soccer organization, one of the most influential and recognized youth soccer programs in the United States, revealed details today of a unique partnership with one of the world’s most successful soccer teams – current Barclays Premier League Champions, Manchester City FC.

The relationship further cements Surf’s reputation as the leading brand for the development of youth soccer players in the San Diego area and Surf’s club affiliate network across the country.

The agreement commences with a three-day tournament for ages 8 through 16 scheduled Memorial Day weekend 2015. The Manchester City FC Americas Cup presented by Surf Cup Sports will be a first-class event, open to USYSA, US Club Soccer, Super Y League and FIFA affiliated teams. Winners of the tournament will be guaranteed entry to the soccerloco Surf Cup, one of the most prestigious youth soccer tournaments in the United States, which the Surf Soccer organization has hosted for 35 years.

“Surf Soccer represents the highest level of youth soccer competition in the United States with the goal of producing the next generation of national team players,” said Jeremy McDonald, President of the San Diego Surf Soccer Club. “By forming this strategic partnership with Manchester City FC, we can grow the Surf brand nationally and help Manchester City to develop its presence in the United States. From a soccer perspective we are looking to provide a viable path to professional soccer opportunities for our very best players here in San Diego and at our affiliate clubs, and initiatives of this nature will further enhance our reputation in the marketplace.”

Other features of the partnership will see Surf Soccer and Manchester City combine to deliver an exclusive youth camp that will be managed under the supervision of Manchester City coaches, teaching young players the same philosophies and training techniques used by Manchester City’s championship first team. These programs will be an excellent opportunity for players from Southern California to showcase their talents. Manchester City will also deliver coach education clinics that will train Surf coaches in the methods and techniques currently implemented within their programs.

“We are delighted to partner with Surf Soccer. Our partnership will provide a fantastic opportunity for young players to develop as footballers and to connect with our team in Manchester. We look forward to working with Surf Soccer as we develop a number of projects together both in the United States and Manchester.”,” said Brian Marwood Managing Director of City Football Services.

In the spirit of collaboration and the partnership, Surf’s top youth soccer players will have the opportunity to visit and train at the City Football Academy, the Club’s new headquarters in Manchester. Both parties also plan to send teams to each other’s home fields for exhibition and showcase purposes in the coming years that will serve to develop the partnership between Surf and Manchester City in the future.
